* MAKE TRADE FAIR

Everyone knows about poverty. We hear it. We see it. Yet it is always easy to forget about it when we are here.

My friend sent me this link in an e-mail. I guess to date, the extent of my knowledge on world poverty ended with my HS205 Models in Health Care course. However nonsensical Schweitzer was and still is, there was some significance to her words. This site made me more aware of how people in developing countries wind up feeling the ramifications of our own actions. Why does this happen?

For all you coffee lovers out there, you will be amazed at the discrepancy between how much a farmer in a developing country makes and a Roaster company like Nestlé or Starbucks. Problems involving world trade regulations (or rather deregulation) on other raw materials include rice, sugar, and cotton. I am officially giving up coffee from those specified retailers. But don’t despair, there are also several places across Canada that sell fair trade coffee.

I just want to raise some awareness about this campaign to end world poverty. You can sign the petition to join the big noise…e-mail George Bush :P…or just learn more about fair trade. It really takes the effort of all.
